Why BOX-IO City?

BOX-CITY is realized with LoRaWAN network protocols, internationally supported and widespread, characterized by a wide range of coverage, a high insensitivity to noise and a very low power consumption.

This technology, combined with ZigBee, allows us to control and monitor areas of any size. The system has the characteristic of not requiring wiring and invasive maintenance, allowing to drastically reduce the costs of installation and infrastructure.

Implementation City

General Overview

BOX-CITY for Street Lighting Management allows automatic/autonomous control of each artificial streetlamp based on natural light and the presence/absence of people and vehicles. The solution is implemented through the integration of Street Light Control inside the lamp body, a proven technology that allows the management of the entire network (or the individual lamp) by means of the software BOX-IO OS.

Each controller also helps to create a city connectivity network, thanks to the on-board presence of a Wi-Fi connectivity module, enabling value-added services for citizens.

Thanks to this feature, Municipalities or Managing Bodies can take advantage of the lighting revamping activities to create advanced systems for remote control and remote management of luminaires, capable of artificially recognizing and managing the safety of the community.

Our solution allows to create integrated platforms that, starting from the public lighting, expand the range of public services. The lighting points become “smart nodes” that allow the integration on the “intelligent pole” of different technologies and interactive functions (such as control of reserved parking, digital signage services, real time environmental monitoring or protection of buildings and public property) aimed at developing the most modern and sustainable Smart Cities.

Operating Principles

The Street Lighting Management solution consists of a specific device (Street Light Control) to be connected to the lighting pole and a state-of-the-art Platform Cloud (IoT Smart Platform) that allows the management of lighting based on the degree of natural light and the presence or absence of vehicles and people.

The solution allows point-to-point remote control, i.e. of the single light point, or line remote control (groups of street lamps).

One of the peculiarities of our system is that each device integrates a buffer battery that allows the operation of the same even when the power supply is lost due to the intervention of twilight switches. In addition, each device, in addition to being a complete unit of remote control of the lamp, is also a node of the SmartNetwork and allows the creation of dynamic networks with peer-to-peer structure, ensuring continuity and reliability of service.

The devices used can be installed inside any luminaire or externally, thanks to their NEMA connector.

Smart Street Lighting

The solution for the intelligent management of artificial lighting that allows to activate the lamps automatically to the passage of people and vehicles and to monitor in real time the environmental pollution.

General Overview

This is an environmental detection system capable of constantly and precisely monitoring emissions of harmful gases and/or dust, environmental and air pollution in any operational context and to provide precise and timely information on the state of air quality in the area being monitored.

The system, composed of mobile stations equipped with sensors – integrated with third party devices for measuring the most specific meteorological and environmental parameters – allows to obtain distributed measurements (even if not synchronous) of the conditions of pollutants over a very large area.

Through different types of wireless sensors it is possible to monitor atmospheric parameters such as PM10, C02, C00, humidity, temperature, UV rays, wind and rain intensity, but also other types of sensors for specific needs that the project requires. Thanks to the self-localisation, the system is also able to provide georeferenced measurements. The ecosystem collects useful data in real time, allowing them to be managed in the Cloud through a fully customizable multiplatform Web/App Dashboard.

It is essential to verify the planning and quality of production processes – or transformation – in the case of companies with a high environmental impact in order to protect the activity of the company and its employees, ensuring the timely control of healthy conditions in the plant and in the surrounding area.

Operating Principles

The IoT ecosystem leverages LoRa technology for long-distance wireless communication while leveraging ZigBee technology for short-to-medium-distance communication.

The network consists of a set of wireless devices controlled by BOX-IO, these devices are able to collect real-time data and manage them in the cloud through a web / app dashboard fully customizable.

The ecosystem is easy to install, requires no infrastructure costs and is easily extensible and/or scalable. The installation of BOX-IO is easy because it separates the configuration phase of the system from its implementation.

The first phase allows you to create the configuration of the control unit by associating the sensors in the system. It can be done before installation, at the installer’s premises or even during production. The installation is then very simple, and consists in positioning the sensors in the places considered most suitable without particular constraints.

Operating Principles

Creating a network of connected services means developing integrated platforms that expand the range of public services offered. Each wireless node in the platform is transformed into a “smart node” that, through specific communication protocols, allows data to be transferred between the different nodes.

General Overview

The BOX-IO ecosystem is able to monitor and control local security through wireless detection sensors, which thanks to innovative software, are able to recognize in real time any situations of conflict or potential risk for the citizen, automatically reporting the alarm and attention to the competent authorities.

The system can be extended with security cameras and remote control via web dashboard and app.

It is also possible to manage the operational flow and security during particular large events in which public security becomes crucial (through temporary installations).

Operating Principles

The ecosystem includes the use of LoRaWAN communication protocols, RFID tags, NFCs and smart cameras.
Data is collected in real time and monitored through an online dashboard.
